User Led Research

Slough User led Consultation (SULC) is a group of service users who have been undertaking research and evaluation in East Berkshire since 2002. A researcher at East Berkshire Mind set up the research groups with the intention of giving users a chance to have their say and put ideas back into local mental health services.

SULC visits different mental health services to collect users’ views and works alongside Step Forwards Employer Liaison team to provide Mental Health Awareness training throughout Berkshire.

SULC has produced reports regarding consultation on mental health strategies, internal and external service audits and produced research on the effectiveness of talking therapies. These reports are available on the downloads page.

SULC are still ‘training’ and always will be - there is always something to learn! From past projects the group’s members have become more positive and confident. At meetings there is always feedback from colleagues and discussion, which in turn helps to assist one another.

Upcoming projects include:

  • developing an evaluation tool for local inpatient services across Berkshire;
  • evaluating this years’ World Mental Health Day events in Slough and Maidenhead; and
  • identifying in detail the needs of black and minority ethnic service users in Slough.

SULC meet once a month at New Horizons Resource Centre in Slough (link to Resource Centre page, New Horizons Slough bookmark). If you would like to be involved you must have experienced mental health needs. You will benefit from meeting new people, increasing your confidence and learning new skills.
